  • John McCain, who previously voiced his support for a 100 year engagement in Iraq, refused to sign on to the G.I. Bill for the 21st Century (passed 5/15/08) that expands educational opportunities for returning vets.
  • John McCain offers no plan to end our troop commitment, now or in the future: When asked if he had an estimate as to when American forces will return home from Iraq, McCain responded, “No, but that’s not too important.” [Today Show, 6/11/08]

  • McCain’s proposed health insurance plan would replace the current tax breaks for employer-sponsored health insurance with an across-the-board tax credit of $2,500 for individuals, and $5,000 for families. With the average family paying 12,000 per year in premiums, many of the 158 million Americans who are covered through their employers would be left without the means to get health insurance.
  • McCain’s health care plan does nothing to address rising health care costs, or to extend health care to those without health insurance, 383,000 of whom are Minnesotans.
